Equality

Symbioosi ry has several equality correspondents who can be contacted at any time if you experience or witness discrimination, harassment, or bullying at Symbioosi’s events, in shared spaces, or in the conduct of the Symbioosi’s board members or functionaries. Discrimination might be aimed at any of one’s features, such as language, religion, sexuality, gender, ethnicity, nationality or health

The equality correspondents aim to introduce themselves to students in person, via social media, or in event communications. You can contact them through the equality form, or if you prefer, directly in person, by email, or by phone (contact details are listed in the form). At every event there is also a previously announced harassment contact person.
You may also leave your own contact information if you would like the equality correspondents to reach out to you—or simply if you wish to talk.

Principles for a Safer Space

By following the principles of a safer space, we work together to make Symbioosi’s events and shared spaces enjoyable and welcoming for everyone.

We treat others as we wish to be treated.
We are considerate, give everyone the chance to speak, communicate so that everyone can understand, listen, and show respect toward all.

We avoid making assumptions about others.
We do not make unnecessary assumptions about anyone’s identity, gender, sexual orientation, personal characteristics, or boundaries. Everyone’s situation and experiences are different.

We are open, we listen, and we learn.
We aim to be unprejudiced toward everyone, recognizing that we are all different. We are open to feedback about our own behavior. If we have acted disrespectfully, we apologize.

There is no room for intolerance, violence, or discrimination in Symbioosi in any form.
If we witness or experience inappropriate behavior, we inform the organizers immediately. We aim to intervene in the situation and show support to the person affected. The equality correspondents are always available and can be contacted easily.

We respect others’ personal space.
No means no. Everyone has the right to bodily integrity. We do not harass anyone verbally or physically and stay aware of boundaries so that no one feels uncomfortable.

We take care of each other.
If we notice someone who seems unwell, we ask if they’re okay. We don’t leave anyone alone and make sure someone looks after them. Organizers can always be asked for help. Remember that feeling unwell isn’t always caused by intoxication. Make sure it’s not a medical emergency. In serious cases, call the emergency number.

We ask for help when we need it.
In any problematic situation, don’t hesitate to ask for help. Organizers and fellow students are always ready to assist.

We assume the best in one another. <3
Everyone makes mistakes—what matters most is openness and willingness to learn!
